Appearance&&
The back of his neck is bejeweled with the word “Eternity” printed in a vivid ink that shifts hue depending upon your vantage point. A Celtic cross is emblazoned across his right shoulder, the ancient, intricate design interwoven with black roses and clawed vines. Kale is trim, with muscles grafted beneath his pale skin, though not enough to hinder the rather panther-like aura he projects. He radiates felineness, possessing a startling grace in his lithe structure. His skin takes on a golden tone, though a spattering of light-colored freckles decorate the bridge of his nose and his sharp, pronounced cheekbones, evidence of his sun-soaked years. The sun has kissed his hair, almost bleached from the ceaseless sunrays that stroke the ear-length locks, which fall in messy, nonchalant layers about his face. His tanned flesh melts into the soft pink of his fuller lips, frames his green eyes, and lines his broad shoulders. His once-ideal nose is slightly crooked, suggesting it was broken, though it is not disfigured, as is sometimes the case. Despite the more innocent features, his eyebrows are slanted over his cutting irises, which are surprisingly intense for a boy of his age.
Personality&&
Kale appears complex, an unlimited ocean of unpredictability, but, should you study the constellations of his characteristics, you slowly develop an understanding of the reasoning behind his actions and words. There are a few layers to Kale, and, were they to be peeled away, you’d discover he is a simple being merely twisted by his parent’s will.
First layer
On the surface, one might take note of his confidence, though his defined modesty prevents said confidence from rubbing others as arrogance. From the walk one might call a ‘strut’ to the soothing, self-assured words he utters, Kale is considered calm and collected. What would crumble the foundation of those around him would hardly hinder Kale’s constant ability to keep his cool and figure out a solution. He does not seek the spotlight, and will content himself with the background. However, despite this, he tends to be in the center of every group, the rock that ties them all together. He’s social, fun-loving, and laidback, with enough wit, tenderness, and appeal to title him ‘charming’.
Second layer
He has a dominant fraction of protectiveness to him. Though many would love to sum this up to a heroic basis, he really does this for two main reasons: one, because, in essence, he is territorial, and two, because he attempts to build some sort of self-worth through means of displaying himself as a ‘hero’. Kale appears unflinchingly brave, even to the point of recklessness, like he could slap a killer without hesitance. But, to be truthful, this façade is just another act; a veil masking the true fear that surrounds him. His life is not bathed with fright, but it is doused enough to force him to construct some sort of counteraction, and this becomes rebellion.
Third layer
Now we’re nearing the hot core of his true being. Kale is naturally independent. He grew up amongst nannies, maids, butlers, and chauffeurs, unsure of what his father even looked like. While most children of such an upraising turn out bratty and incapable of doing anything for themselves, Kale evolved a hard defiance for all authority, particularly to those he deemed unworthy of their superiority. He became unruly, untamable, and, indeed, disobedient. Sure, this could be accounted for his ‘boldness’ that so many of his friends adore, but his parents saw it as blatant mutiny.
Fourth layer
While this is a heavily-shrouded layer, it is a governing section of his disposition. Kale is flighty. You could call it ‘afraid of commitment’, but it’s not so much commitment that he runs from, but more so feelings in general. Kale will find a girl he likes, no matter her social standing. She might be the ‘all-around’ sleaze, the ‘nerd’ in the corner, the ‘girl-next-door’, even the ‘queen bee’. Whatever her identity, he takes on the role of a very serious admirer once he picks out his object of desire. He all but stalks her, and it is rare for her to wait long to like him back. However, the minute she starts responding to him, he locks down and runs away. Fickle and hypocritical, yes, but the sad reality either way.
Fifth layer
Ah, the last, and surely the most central of them all. The hub of his persona. The above layers are so interwoven with steel that one would expect his core to be strong and raging with electricity. This would be but an illusion. Deep inside, his self-esteem is a cracked, flimsy sheet covering a world of self-loathing and doubt. Even if his every choice seems to be the right one, he is constantly looking back, second-guessing himself, and fuming over his smallest mistakes. If he trips up, he’ll punish himself for weeks, but, should someone else blow a hole through his entire life, he merely forgives and forgets. That’s one way to put it; he is perfect to everyone else, but, toward himself, he is a junkyard of mass deficiency.
But no worries, dollface. You won't see any of his inner layers. No one ever will, for he hoards them away like he'd shatter if they were known.
You'll never see anything beyond that secure, sweet droll of his.
For why would you want to see anything more? Kale shows what the world wants, and they want perfection.
Other&&
LIKES:
- Anyone possessing a trait that stands out to him, whether it be a physical attribution or a mental quality. This does not file him as shallow, but more so a collector of one-of-a-kinds, to be blunt.
- French
- The cold, no matter how bitter
- Darkness
- Enclosed spaces
- Storms of any kind, from the malicious tornado to the peaceful drizzle
- Toxic scents, such as permanent markers, gasoline, smoke, et cetera
- White, black, and red
- Cats
- Anything sharp
- Fame
- Blue eyes – he could like the ugliest girl in the world so long as she had beautiful, outstanding eyes that drew him in
- Articulation – when someone talks in the drawl of a prep, doesn’t finish their sentences, or uses excessive ‘like’s, he gets annoyed and his company will become lathered with forced small talk
- Alcohol
- Horses
DISLIKES:
- Wool
- Heat
- Someone who follows the trend
- Arrogance
- Superiority
- Ignorance
- The smell of tuna, stale perfume, and lavender
- The color purple
- Birds utterly petrify him
- Someone who tries too hard to fit into a label
- Clinginess
- Too much make-up
- Common phrases
- The term “Oh, my gosh”
- Repetition
- Monkeys
STRENGTHS:
- Acting. Kale could pull off any character, even a woman; naturally, this makes him an excellent liar.
- Charm. He could convince a snake to purr should he have a reason to!
- Counteracting sarcasm. Kale himself rarely uses the crude form of humor, but he is well-equipped with overcoming it.
WEAKNESSES:
- His temper. He isn’t exactly irrational and hotheaded, but if someone tries to assert dominance over him, he becomes completely impossible, refusing to do anything they say and throwing what one might call a ‘hissy fit’.
- His phone. Get it in your grasp, and he’ll crumble like sand to get it back.
- Accents. The sound of a French or British accent will make his blood rush.
- He gets motion sick ridiculously easy. I mean, hit-the-deck-he’s-gonna-blow motion sick.
CHARACTER FLAWS: Well, I think the lowest form of self-esteem would count as a character flaw, would it not? He’s not particularly insecure about what people say to him so much as he is overly-critical of himself, and is constantly attempting to achieve his father’s approval. He is extremely impulsive and reckless, and he tends to contradict himself frequently, creating a shifting exterior of volatility.
ECCENTRICITIES: Whenever Kale gets on the phone, he has to pace in tight circles during the entire conversation – if he sits down, he’ll zone out and then realize he started pacing again without knowledge of having even stood up. He has a fetish with hair and is obsessed with playing with other’s tresses. When he gets any intense emotion, he clenches his jaw as if trying to restrain himself from falling apart, which has resulted in frequent jaw pains, a very ticked-off doctor, and an overwhelming amount of Advil that he’s sure will count against him as time progresses.
